2012 Christmas Cakes

Finally got around to decorating the family's Christmas cakes today.  I had chosen the blue ribbon for the general theme a number of weeks ago - so wanted to keep the icy blue idea going.

All are rich fruit cakes and coated with marzipan and either sugarpaste or royal icing,

The first one is for my daughter and is coated in sugarpaste.  Quite pleased with the penguins, although my trees didn't turn out that well.   Should have gone with gut instinct and made them with star cutters.  They made it look so easy in a book I have doing them with scissors - still a few dragees have camouflaged them slightly!

This second one is for my son's family.  The prefer Royal Icing.  Must confess it is a long time since I have piped lattice - should have gone with a No. "0" tube.  I am obviously out of practise!  Must be nearly 15 years since I did this sort of piping!

and finally my cake.  Wanted to do something different to penguins on mine - so made a very quick poinsettia, using a bit of artistic licence and make it white and pearly blue/green.    I could have done a better job, had I left more time to make it!  However, as I have to have a starvation blood test tomorrow morning and nothing to eat after 7pm today - didn't dare risk working with icing and popping a smidgen in my mouth! lol!
