Mixed Media Canvas

I have been playing with some metal items from Chocolate Baroque today.    I started with a black canvas.

I then added some black texture paste to it through a stencil with my finger.   This smudged slightly in one corner, but as it was just a random texture that I wanted it didn't matter.  I also added some dots of texture paste around the canvas, using what was left on my finger!

Whilst this was drying, a applied black gesso to the metal elements, and also applied a coat of black gesso to the canvas.

The metal items were then coloured - either with pebeo DYNA paints or some metallic lustres, (blue, greens and white frost).   The canvas then had a coat of Pearl Black Pebeo Creme paint applied to it. Then it was the fun part sticking on the embelishments using a hot glue gun, and then adding some little diamantes to the centre of the flowers

I designed the canvas as in the top picture, but it could be turned to view this way:

Having watched a demo where they painted with Tonic Nuvo Mousse which had water added to it, I wondered if you could paint with watered down Imagination Crafts Starlight Wax ...........

YOU CAN!

Firstly I painted the whole of the outside of this little wooden "basket" (for want of a better word) with the watered down Black Wax - no previous preparation  - just straight on on to the bare wood. (If it hadn't worked I was going to apply black gesso first, but it wasn't needed).  (It probably would have been a good idea to paint the whole thing first with black gesso, but that wasn't he point of the experiment).

Today I have over painted the panels with watered down Dark Orchid Wax, Antique Pink Wax, and then got brave and tried Pentart Chameleon Wax Paste in Blue - this didn't like being watered down, so it was applied with a brush and my finger.  The final panel had watered-down Deco Art Metallic Lustre applied (colour Lavish Green).

As you are supposed to be able to stamp with the Starlight Wax, I then experimented with this using white gold for the butterflies and dragon flies, pearl for the leaves, but on the green background I used the Black wax to make it show up more.  (Stamps used were Clarity Stamps).   Stamped images are not perfect, but then I was stamping straight on to wood and not a smooth surface.

The top edge and the edges of the hearts outlines had more neat pearl wax applied and the corner edges had m.sky wax applied, both using my finger.

The inside had a coat of black gesso applied to it.  Finally a coat of spray and shine was applied - ok the outside didn't need it, but I just kept going after spraying the inside!

Yes it is a mishmash of effects, but it was an experimental piece and will be used in my Den for storage!  (Let's face it if I get fed up with I can always apply black gesso and start again!)

Unicorn

Playing about with some new goodies - Creative Expressions Glitter Kiss.

I applied the Sea Green Kiss first of all, and then went over the top with Silver Chrome Kiss.  I also added a few random bits of Cosmic Shimmer Texture Paste in Gold Pearl.

I then took some twine and some of the Costmic Shimmer Clear Texture paste and made the mane and fringe (In hindsight I should have done the tail too).    The twine was coloured with various shades of DecoArt Metallic Lustre and some Luscious Poweders.  The horn had twine wrapped around it and painted with Luscious Powders, and some jewels added.  The tail and hooves were decorated with paper effects and puffy paint.  Finally more jewels stuck on the body.

Not quite the effect I had envisaged, but I don't mind sharing failures (although it does look better in real life)

I couldn't decide how to mount the unicorn, so tried it on a white canvas as well as the black.  I prefer the white canvas, and when it finally gets stuck on to it, I shall probably edge the canvas with silver.
