Tiz Done ... Gramap;hone

I had a busy Easter weekend out gallivanting, but I did sit in the sunshine on Saturday and painted by old fashioned gramophone.  I am really pleased with it.  I tried to keep it authentic and vintage looking.

The Base was painted with a varied mix of Pebeo and Amsterdam browns, creams and even purple "splodged" on to a painting mat and randomly mixed and then painted on to create a wood effect.. Decoration done with gold posca pen.

Trumpet painted with black gesso and then a Pebeo iridescent gold and overpainted with Golden's gold. The arm was black gessoed, then painted with gold, then changed my mind and painted silver, and then pebeo gold gilding wax. the record was black gessoed and then painted with black acrylic, and the label was created in craft artist.

Dragon's Eye

I had to play with the new Katy Sue Fantasy design moulds.    I just love the dragon's eye, dragon's skin and claw moulds.   I also used the belt and buckle moulds, and elements from the hinges mould.

I used an MDF cheese board blank for the background, which I painted with black gesso and then my favourite Pebeo Blue/black paint.  All the elements were created using Hearty Air Dry clay.

The dragon's skin, eye and claws were painted with Starlight paints.  The belt and buckle elements were painted with Amsterdam and Pebeo acrylics and then a touch of Pebeo gilding wax was applied.   The little screw heads were painted with gold Starlight paints and then gilding wax applied.

The leaves were painted with a mixture of Amsterdam, Pebeo and Starlight paints and then a few bits of IndigoBlu copper kettle mega flakes adhered to them and a smidgen of gilding wax again.

Finally a strip of card was stamped with the word Imagination and a touch of gilding wax applied around the edge, and gilding wax applied to the edge of the board, and the whole thing sprayed with Spray and Shine to seal it.

MDF Train

I gave you a sneak peak of this the other week - now it is finished.  I must say I am pretty pleased with it.   I hope the recipient will be - but shan't know for a while as it is part of his Christmas pressie!

A Little Thatched Tudor Cottage

I have spent the last 3 days or so putting this little house together and painting it for a friend.  Great fun, although nerve wracking as you are hoping it is what they want.

I did paint some bits as I went along, but still had to do some more when it was put together.   The roof was the trickiest to get the colour right - I started off with it too yellow, so it was toned down with a light beige and gold Pebeo paint.   I needed to create a thatched roof, and I did this using a little Powertex clear Medium and some cottons swabs.  I wasn't quite sure of the effect to start with but when it dried and "shrank" to the mdf it was ok.  (You could probably get a similar effect, using kitchen roll applied with pva glue.)

I created the black "wooden" strips with black Sheena card, which I ran through a wood effect embossing folder of Sheena Douglass's.   I painted this with black matt Pebeo paint, and then cut it into strips.

If you look closely you will see I applied a bit of sand texture paste through a stencil before painting the white of the house.

When I took the first set of photos, I hadn't realised that I hadn't stuck the chimney on - so this was duly rectified.   The recipient also asked if I could make a house name plate, so this was also done and added.

In the picture above you can see a bit of the "stone" wall effect |I created, using a Tim Holtz stencil.   I also used it for a the base, albeit most of it wouldn't be seen as it is covered by the house.

Fairy Door - Yabadabadoo!

It really was to hot to do much today, so decided to finish painting my Fairy Door kit.

The door was created by using various decoart paints, and then applying some distress inks, immediately followed by Ultra thick embossing powder to get the rough look to it when heated

The surround was prepared with Pebeo sand texture paste, which I brushed on to get a rough rock finish.  This was painted with various Pebeo deco creme paints in greys, beige, and white, with a bit of green distress ink added.  Most was applied with a stencil brush in a random fashion, but I also used a dry baby white on my finger for some of the effects.

The hinges and door knocker were treated with Inka-Gold in Pewter, Bronze and Gold.

The Ferns were painted with a mixture of Pebeo green deco creme paint and some green distress inks.

The toadstool was also painted with the pebo creme paints and also some red brusho.  Finally it was given a coat of glossy accents (which might not have been such a good idea on this hot sunny day as that seemed to react with the paint underneath in the sun - oops!)

Apart from the red of the toadstool, the whole project was coated with an outdoor acrylic varnish.

It reminds me of the Flintstones - thus the Yabadabadoo in the title.

A Giraffe and some experimenting

I had a play day yesterday.   I have had this little MDF giraffe for a while (one of the family is into giraffes).  I have some new mini stencils, and a couple of them were perfect for the giraffe.

I treated the MDF with a thin coat of white gesso and then got out my pebeo paints. the "background" was painted with Pebeo créme and then I sponged various shades of browns from my Pebeo acrylics though the stencils, and sponged a little more onto the legs.   The eye detail was created with a black micron pen.  I am pleased with the result.

My second play was an experiment with some Pebeo sand texture through some of the stencils onto card which had been treated with black gesso. I then applied various shade of Cosmic Shimmer Glitter Kiss.

The effects look better in real life, but I think the Glitter Kiss would be more effective applied to an embossed detail, as it didn't seem to want to adhere that well to the sand texture.   However, you have to experiment to know what works and what doesn't!

Wooden Carry Organiser

I bought this little carry organiser last week in The Works.  Number 2 granddaughter rather took a fancy to it; so today I set to and painted it.

I have done a few other bits for her bedroom, as requested in black and white, so I kept with the same theme.  Having first applied Pebeo black gesso, however, I took a bit of a liberty of using my new pebeo black pearl deco-creme paint that arrived today .  (Well it would have been rude not to!)

The little embellishments also came from the Works.   I rather liked the letters (though if you wnted to spell a name you would need more than one set as only contains one of each of the alphabet and numbers 0-9.  I also bought a little pack of butterflies, albeit I thought these looked more like bees (and probably are as in the pack was some snails - one of which was used on a unicorn the other day).

The embellishments were painted with pebeo white gesso, and then pebeo white acrylic.  Finally I applied Pebeo pearl deceo-creme.

On the other side I used one of my wooden block stamps from Colourlicious, and stamped it in white pebeo acrylic, and then went over it with paper effects to make it in relief, and added the trail.
