Blue Birthday card

A card to go with the cake from yesterday's post.    Mainly created in Craft Artist (CAP2) with the addition of some air dry polymer clay flowers and leaves, and mounted on pearlised white card.   (It's a long time since I have made a card bigger than 6"square - lol!_

Wrapped Birthday Cake (and out of my comfort zone!)

Well this is a first for mem and a big challenge and quite out of mu comfort zone.   A four layer salted caramel Victoria sponge cake.   (The flavour was achieved by using Sugar an Crumbs salted caramel icing sugar instead of caster sugar).   I also made the cakes in a normal 6" cake tin rather than sandwich tins, and then split them.  (Never done that before either!)  The cakes were made with gluten free flour and the "buttercream " (or probably more correctly frosting) was non dairy as used Stork, which is dairy free, and I also used this in the cake mix too.

I had seen the cake demonstrated and decided to give it a go, and apparently these tall 6" cakes offset on a board are very "in".

The cakes were layered with Sugar and Crumbs Velvet Vanilla "buttercream" and the swirls on the top were also the same butter cream.

I had originally intended to coat the whole cake with buttercream and just add a sugarpaste wrap, but I confess it didn't go to quite to plan, so I coated the whole cake with sugarpaste - that was a task in itself as it was 6" high!

I then marbled the sugarpaste with a smidgen of blue and pink colouring.  Rolled out and cut to size, and attached and the top edge filled.

The "flowers"/swirls when they added.   I confess it is so long since I have done these I had forgotten which nozzles were the best ones to use, and as I needed one for every colour,  I just had to raid mu stash and used what I could find.   At least the leaf nozzle was an easy choice!

The board was coated with sugarpaste and the words indented and then coloured using edible dusts mixed with alcohol.   (I was going to use cocoa butter, but using alcohol was quicker!

The cake was for my daughter, and I am pleased to say she liked it.  She has cut it in half for me to show the layers, and she will be taking it into work tomorrow to share with her colleagues.

Simple but effective

I overcame that problem of what to do for a male card, with a little bit of cheating today.    This one is for a nephew I haven't seen in years - and I have no idea what his current interests are these days  So I just kept it simple and created this in Craft Artist (CAP2).    It was printed on copy paper then stuck to Fabriano Academia card, and edges with blue Mica Magic.   (yes they are my favourite product at the moment).

Birthday Card

I came across this sentiment stamp whilst looing for something to create this card.    I don't know what make it is, and I didn't buy it as such, as very rarely buy sentiment stamps.  It must have come as a freebie extra with another purchase.   Anyway it was just perfect for this card for a friend who has had a very difficult year since her last birthday.   I teamed it with one of my favourite floral sprays.

I used  piece of Fabiano Academia paper to stamp on, and coloured the spray with water colours.   I then edged the paper (or should I say card, as it is watercolour weight) with some f my new Craft Artist Mica Magic in blue and also edged the actual card with pink Mica Magic.

Another I-pad holder

My daughter wanted another I-pad / phone holder for her desk at work.    She wanted another Terrazzo one.

I gather together all my left over bits of casting compound and gave them a good crushing until they were quite small and added them to the white casting compound.  Although there was a lot in there only some made it to the surface.   When the mold was set I gave it a goo sanding to reveal the "bits".
In hindsight I think I should also added a drop of resin to the mold first, albeit that wasn't what she asked for.  (Sometimes that gives a smoother finish).   I then pick out one of the colours in the terrazzo bits and edged the whole think with Craft Artist Mica Magic, which leaves a permanent shine and highlight.

To be honest the photo doesn't do it justice - the whole piece is much whiter and lighter in colour and the mica edging really sets it off.   Anyway - she was really pleased with it, and her phone or I-pad can be safely propped on her desk.   (Am wondering how many of her colleagues will now want one! 😃) - I may be making these for some time to come!)

Well that's me caught up with the Blog at the moment - hopefully there will be some more posts in the near future - at least of cards due for the end of the month.

It's been a while ....

Gosh it has been a while since I posted to the blog.   The Festive period got in the way and then I wasn't doing much crafting!   I do have some bits and pieces that are work in progress, but they will take a while as some is sewing, some is crocheting and some is latch hook work!

In the meantime here is a little project I did just before Christmas and forgot to post:
