Something a bit different!

 

Having painted the lemon roses on the wooden plaque, I wanted to try something a bit different, so this was an experiment.  MDF plate painted with black, then diecut flowers and leaves added as I glazed it so the glaze acted like a glue.  Die cuts were made from pale turquoise papermania pearlescent card - the really glisten in the sunlight!

 

Don't want to part with this one either! :-) 

 

I am thinking that you could use this idea and paint the leaves and flower still leaving the outline, or even use them as a base for paint fusioning.

 

I am going to attempt something with a snowflake die later!  Hope this inspires you to try something different with diecut shapes.

Black and Silver Ribbon Necklace

I have been working on a special project - a black and silver necklace

This is with the silver bead option.  I didn't have a silver bead, so painted a white one with my acrylic paints and varnished it with a metallic glaze.

Large bead option

I really wanted a larger bead, and they are impossible to find - well ones with big enough holes to go over the ribbon - so I made this one from Cloud Clay, painted with black acrylic, and varnished.  It takes a while as you have to let the clay dry for 24 hours.  Fortunately the painting takes less drying time.

and finally I made a box for it.  Decorated with same ribbon as the necklace, and using my favourite dies, I cut out the flower and leaves from some black and silver marbled card I created a few weeks ago.

70th Birthday Card

I have used this image from JS Furry Friends before for a man's card, but couldn't resist using it again for my SIL's 70th Birthday, as she used to have a dog a bit like this.

I imported the image into MCS so that  I could  then match one of the blues in the image to find out the appropriate RGN numbers for me to computer generate it in Publisher - I actually made a note of the two shades used and used both later.  (I use Publisher quite a bit for planning a card, as I can snapshot the various backing papers that come on a CD and see which one I prefer as a background paper against the image - which saves printing off loads of papers and then choosing.  - For instance I tried backing papers with dog bones, and paw prints, before settling on this one from the CD.)

The image and sentiment (sentiment has a computer generated surround to match the image), and backing paper were then mounted on blue papermania pearlescent textured card and I also cut the skelton flower from the same card.   I also wanted to try out my Cheery Lynn French Pastry doily die, to make the card a tad more feminine.  The basic card is a pale pearlescent cream cardstock (from C&C bought at Wilkinsons!).

Added a diamante gem to the flower and then over-wrote the sentiment with a bluey/green Sakura gell stardust pen, which was the exact colour of the writing - how lucky was that!

The card was completed using the matching insert from the CD, to which I also added the dog image to the "fly leaf" with a matching computer generated surround (again using Publisher).

70th birthday

I kept this card fairly simple as it has to be posted to the south of France.  Basic Card is from Craftwork cards, and is actually white!  (blame the reflection from the blue sky for causing it to look blue!) 

The centre panel is also from Craftwork cards, and I distressed it with one of the inks from my Big and Juicy Mountain Meadow ink pad.  Confess I am not that good at the grungy look of distressing!  Card was finished off with my favourite Marianne Die, a little gem, and a peel-off.

It has made me feel old making this - it is 50 years since the recipient and I shared a bedroom, when she became part of our family whilst doing her teaching practise in England, although it brings back happy memories.  I hope my "french" sister likes it, I think she will she likes the minimalistic look.  I would love to have nipped over and handed it to her personally, as it is a few years since I have seen her, although my daughter and family have visited her recently.

Sympathy Cards

I haven't posted on the blog for a while as I have been busy doing some samples for a Craft Catalogue.  However, that is nearly at an end, and I have taken a day off today as I had to make two Sympathy cards for the same family.  These are never easy cards to make are they.

The first card is a white DL sized hammered card, and I used an Art Impressions stamp I have had for ages and haven't used much although I love Arum Lillies.  I watercoloured it with aquamarkers, edge the card with purple and then matted it on to two shades of pearlised lavender card stock, and added the Thinking of You peel-off.

I think my choice of image was perhaps inspired by the fact that my Lily outside the backdoor came into bloom today.

The second one is a square card from Craftwork cards with one of their frames mounted on to pale lavender pearlised card (although it doesn't look lavender in the photo - it is the same colour as the underneath mat on the above card). I then cut the Marianne skeleton flower from black card stock, and created a sentiment in Publisher and mounted this on the same lavender cardstock.

Although the next photo isn't so clear - I think it shows the lavender colour better.  (Unfortunately when I came to photograph the card - it had started to rain so had to take the picture indoors!)



                          

Second Furry Friends card

Image is from JS Furry Friends, matted and layered on very pale pink shimmered card (forget the name -bought it at Ally Pally) and silver mirri.

The Martha Stewart trellis was punched from card created from the central part of the cat image amd resized.  Flower and sentiment (matted/layered as image) was also created from cropping part of the image and resizing to create matching card.  Basic card is my favourite Papermania Shimmer card.

Cats and Gymnastics

As soon as I saw this image on JS Furry Friends, I knew I had to buy the CD - it was just what I wanted for a card order with the requirements Cats and Gymnastics!  I have even been brave and not layered it straight - bit diverse for me!  The photo doesn't really do the colours justice as the image is more aqua than blue.

Basic white card stock, trimmed with Woodware cutter.  The backing square of a gymnast was created in MCS by tiling a royalty free image, and changed to brown.  This was matted and layered using Papermania shimmered textured card stock in a brown shade to match the cats, and gold mirri, as was the image and the sentiments, which were created in Publisher.

I also created some flowers, by importing the image into Publisher and cropping the image, and then resizing it to give me the colour of card I wanted for the flowers (I printed card on both sides in different shades).  Whole thing finished off with a touch of brown ribbon and some matching jewels.

Card for a Granddaughter

Gosh I have been so busy decorating lately and it is still ongoing, but I had to have a break today and make some cards.   Here is the first one:

When I asked my granddaughter what she wanted on her cake for this birthday - she replied "Three Musketeers" - fine I thought - Google for some inspiration.  The other day I sat and prepared the idea for a card, using the Disney Three Musketeers, and was really quite pleased with the ideas I came up with for a cake and a card.  HOWEVER .... last night I discovered that she wanted Barbie Three Musketeers !!!!!  Oh heck! mega rethink - and googling wasn't a lot of help.  I eventually found an image of Princess Corrinne, and with my lateral thinking head on - grabbed my Debbi Moore Masks cd.   This is the result:

Card is Papermania Shimmer Textured cardstock, with some of the same in a different shade for the matting and layering of the main image which I produced in Publisher.  Princess Corrine is decoupaged, and the flowers use the same main colour cardstock, cutout with cuttlebug and a Marianne die.  Gems added to flowers and Princess Corrine's dress, which  has also had glitter added.

The insert was a backing paper from JS Enchanted Dreams, and I made a pop-up mask from Debbi Moore's Venetian Masks, printed on to the same cardstock as main card, and added a few gems and glitter.  (The mask idea came from reading up about Barbie Musketeers and the fact her and her pals wore masks).  Hopefully it looks a bit like the mask that Princess Corrinne is wearing in the image on the front of the card - she is wearing it like a tiara in that image!)

Hopefully a 5 year old will love it.   Now to set to work on the cake ......... (watch this space, later this week)

Flowers & Leaves

I treated myself to the Marianne Designs Creatables - Flower and Leaves - LR0156 from the shop with the wobbly shelves during the week, and couldn't wait to play.  I grabbed a piece of dark green paper to see what the shapes looked like when die cut, and liked the effect so much that I turned it into a card for my Goddaughter.

DL pearl cardstock, Dark green leather effect paper, mounted on silver mirri.  Die cut flower and leaves from more white pearlised card, finished with a diamante centre, and a white greeting and a couple more diamantes - simples, but I love the simplicity!
