Another Steampunk Owl

As I mentioned the other day, I have been going through my stash of MDF projects that I bought back in the winter.   (The idea was that some of them would be useful for the grandchildren to work on)   Anyway I discovered this kit, and I knew exactly how I wanted to paint the owl   (It is another Madhatters kit by the way).

I used Pentart Rust Effect and Patina paints again for the most part for this.   The base ring was done with the patina effect, with the rust effect on the numerals.  I also used Patina for the base layer of his eyes, and then subsequent layers I used the rust effect.   The owls "glasses" and body (it was all small pieces to give the metal effect) was  painted with Pebeo Paynes Grey mixed with white gesso, and then each piece was edged with black Nuvo ink applied with a sponge.   The rivet details were done with Pentart Relief Liner, and I also used a bit of this on his claws before painting them yellow.

I am not really "INTO"  Steampunk, but I admire the cleverness of a lot of it, so I was pretty pleased with how this turned out.  In fact to be honest I was  pretty chuffed with the result, as it was exactly hos I had envisaged it.   (I hung it on the wall in my hall to take a photo of it, and confess I haven't taken it down as I like it so much !!!!!!)

Steampunk Birthday Card

Gosh is it hot or what?   I haven't been in the mood for crafting with this heat, added to having had a busy week of appointments.  Although did have a lovely afternoon yesterday at Mamma Mia 2, with my daughter and four granddaughters - a lovely girlie afternoon in a air-condition cinema - bliss.

There is so much crafty stuff I want to get on with I just haven't got the energy.  I did sit and make four cards this morning, so I will share these over the next few days.

Designed in Craft Artist, and kept it simple - too hot to do mega thinking and designing!

Steampunk Card

Having made the parchment card for my granddaughter for her birthday, I learned that she was an avid "Panic at the Disco" fan, which is sort of a bit steampunk, and that was what she wanted for her birthday cake for the disco she is having later in the month.   (Thankfully her mum is making her cake this year)   🙋

I told her uncle and said would he like me to make a "steampunk" card for her.    Well you can gather his reply by the picture above !  So bearing in mind that she wanted her cake to be based on the top hat, it was obvious what the central image would be.    I also discovered that I had this lovely steampunk font for the wording in one of my kits - result!

Enamelled Jewellery

Chatting to a friend today, I was searching for an entry on my blog, and it seems I omitted to to write about some enamelled jewellery I made with Pebeo Fantasy paints.  So this is now rectified.  (Apologies if I did blog them before, but just can't find them!)

Last year I made these pendants - the first two are double sided, and I was trying out some steam punk ideas, with some watch bits etc that I bought at Sandown Craft Show.

Fantasy paints were dribbled into the cabouchons, and then the various metal findings added.   

They were then glazed with Magic-Glos UV Resin (made by Lisa Pavelka) which I prefer to the resins you have to mix, mainly because, it is foolproof, (which is a must for me) and it is fairly quick drying in sunlight (or you could in the winter use one of those UV nail drying lights.   I have found in strong sunlight it is touch dry within half an hour.  Also there is no guessing on how much resin you need to mix for a project - you just squeeze it out of the nozzle on the bottle.  (As I said foolproof - or should I say idiot proof in my case!)

This was an experiment using a daisy from the lawn, only I was too

impatient - and didn't wait for the paints to dry - so the daisy took on the colour

of the paint!

Steam Punk Bezels

I have been playing with another of my purchased from Saturday - some UV Resin and some steampunk bits.  I always fancied doing some steam punk items.The resin is FAB - no mixing, as it is ready mixed, just squeeze the bottle!  It also takes less than 10 mins to dry out in direct sunlight!  FAB!

Here are some close ups of the pieces.   I need to practise a little more, as I can see a few bubbles in the photos (couldn't see them with the naked eye (well not these old eyes anyway) as the bezels are less than 3cm across. Of course if I had found the video by Lisa before I started, I would have known how to get rid of the bubbles as they occurred!  (and if I had been able to see them too!)

Before I added the bits and the resin I applied a little Pebeo fantasy paints first and let that dry overnight.

By the way did I mention that this resin is FAB, FAB, FAB!  rofl!
