Doodling: Flowers

When Barbara finished her demo of the doodled heart, she showed us how to do the flower on the right.  having finished my heart is spent the afternoon drawing the lower, and also decided to try and recreate one I did about 8 years ago, when my eyesight was a lot better!

As the flower I was trying to recreate was originally coloured in - I decided to colour both of them in using Promarkers, and even got out my Artistry inks to do the brushed background colour.

I can't draw for toffee ..........

I had  my 12 year old granddaughter staying overnight over the weekend, and we had an "Art" session.  She loves drawing.  We decided we would draw faces - now I can't draw for toffee, but I do have a set of Jane Davenport eye stamps.  I also have some of the Peerless Designs Let's Face It masks/stencils.   So I cheated and used those, whilst my granddaughter drew the one below free hand!

Well I tried, and although I cheated, I supposed they weren't too bad!

A Christmas Card Experiment

 

As stated in the title this was a bit of an experiment, using a Clarity stamp and a stencil.   The candle image was stamped and coloured in with promarkers Spectrum Illustrator pens.   

It looked a bit lonely in the middle of the card, so I decided to use my free Clarity stencil and applied blue and yellow Artistry inks to the aperture.     I realised that the "holly" bit of the stencil needed defining so I went around the edges of the stencil with a micron pen.   I then applied some more Artistry inks to the holly leaves and berry.

As I said an experiment.  I shall use the stencil again, but in a different way.   I think if you turned it slightly it could look like a Christmas pudding!

A stamped Card

Now, those of that you that know me please don't faint - I have actually made a card without using Craft Artist!

I confess there was a reason - I needed a new printer. and although it had arrived an was set up, I wasn't sure how much ink there was in the cartridges that come with it.

So I decided to use one of Sheena's stamps - Clematis from her Torn Paper range.

It was very relaxing sitting and colouring for a change.   The image was coloured using promarkers and Spectrum Noir pencils, and a distress ink on the background, applied with a Clarity Brush.

I then created a little sentiment using one of Leonie's masks and more of the distress ink

I then decided to try to give the image and sentiment a bit of oomph!   I added stickles to the centre of the flowers, and then did some clear embossing on the flowers and the sentiment.  (confess the photo doesn't do it justice, but it is quite effective in real life.

Chuffing Good Birthday

It's my son-in-law's Birthday today and this is the card I made for him.  He is a model train enthusiast.  Image is from Justinklined The Next Big Thing, coloured with promarkers.   Computer generated sentiment and one of my new Memory Box dies.

Christening Card

This is the card I made for my youngest granddaughter's Christening.  Pearlised cardstock with an image coloured with promarkers from Justinklined - The Next Big Thing.    I kept with the colour scheme of the Christening Cake, and used some of the leftover lace and ribbon from the cake.   As you will see I also managed to incorporate the little beaded cross that I created the other day.  I was so pleased to discover the lovely little gold brad in my stash.  (It must have been from a goody bag!)

I also had to make a sponge cake in a hurry.  My daughter in law was going to buy a ready iced plain one from M&S for me to put some flowers on, but discovered that they don't stock them on the shelves now - you have to order them and they take a week!

I also made a few cupcakes, which like the sponge cake are dairy free.  You will also see that I used those broken petals from when I made the roses for the Royal-iced Cake!   (Waste not, want not!)

Card for Bea

Had to use this image from Joanna's Daisy and Friends cd, as it reminded me so much of granddaughter No2, whose 6th birthday it will be shortly!  I had already chosen it and coloured it in, before I knew she would be spending most of her birthday at a dress rehearsal with her sister for their forthcoming Ballet School's show at a local theatre!

Coloured with promarkers. Matted onto two shades of Papermania pearlescent card.  One of my  new papermania flowers from latest Goodybag, which has been edged with a a blue Letraset Metallic Marker.  I also used the blue and green metallic markers to colour the peel-off number 6 and some clear oriental lettering ones from my stash, which I bought from C&C many moons ago.  Was quite pleased how the metallic markers blended on the peel-offs.

As she is quite a keen little crafter, I have bought her some Lyra watercolour crayons and koi brushes for her birthday.  I am thinking that by next year, it will have to be promarkers - better start saving then!

Crocus card

oooooo - I could have spat feathers when I was making this card - I had spent ages colouring the topper, but didn't realise that the piece of card I was using to check out the colours of the promarkers had slipped, and in fact I was actually scribbling on the piece of card the topper was on!.  Nightmare!  (You can imagine the words that were said, as I didn't realise until I had finished all the colouring!)

Originally the topper was going to be square, and I had some lovely orange flowers to go on the card to pick up the Clarice Cliff feel.  No way could I cut the topper into a square or an oblong with various purple "colour try outs" scribbled on it, just to the top right of the crocuses!

I had seen Hazel's gorgeous card earlier and commented how inspirational it was - I just loved the shape of the topper - so I am afraid I "pinched" her idea.  As I have a creative memories cutter that does squiggly lines, I used that, (I think Hazel probably did hers with a die), and then used a sort of distressing technique with the orange and greens from my Big and Juicy "Spice" ink pad.  Mounted the image on more card and then did a freehand trim to match the shape I had cut out.  

OK - so problem solved with the image - didn't look to bad - tried putting against various backing papers - no it wasn't right and the flowers I had chosen didn't look right with the weird shape of the topper - so it was back to pinching Hazel's idea and just putting four different coloured squares behind the topper.

Thank you so much Hazel for the inspiration - you really did get me out of a hole!  I was behind with this card, due to fact that I had severe cramp in my hand over the weekend and couldn't finish colouring the topper until last night, and the card needed to go in the post today.  (I probably could have started again this morning, but as it turned out an early phonecall from the surgery meant I had to go down for a minor op on my shoulder this afternoon, so this morning was spent getting ahead on chores that I shan't be able to do for a week until the stitches come out!)

Quickie Easter Cards

Well having made the creme egg animals yesterday afternoon, I thought I had better get cracking on my Easter cards for the family! So here is my second card for yesterday's family birthdays - a card for my three year-old granddaughter.  A 6" square scalloped card from craftwork cards.   Main image is from Joanna Sheen's Daisy and Friends, coloured with promarkers, and mounted on purple pearlescent card.  A strip of glitter card, another made from a Martha Stewart punch and a little bit of pretty ribbon from a Docrafts Goodybag..  Finished off with a couple of peel-offs.

Obviously no zentangle this card, but I played on the envelope! :-)

Birthday Cakes!

A simple little card for one of today's family birthdays - this one is for my niece - Image is from Inklined "The Next Big Thing" coloured with promarkers.  Chose this image as recently she shared a photo of a rather gorgeous chocolate cake on FB, which I rather liked and she asked if I was volunteering to make it for her.  Unfortunately she has had to make do with these cakes instead!  (well they are less fattening!)

Of course I had to do a Zentangle for her, and I tried to use the colours that I used on the cakes.  Both images mounted onto red pearlescent card, to pick up the red in the images, and a couple of red flowers from my stash to finish.

Glass of red?

I've used an image from Inklined "The Next Big Thing" again for this card, coloured with Promarkers. I also drew a Zentangled M and tried to keep it masculine looking as the recipient is a man, again coloured with promakers.  Cardstock is some from my stash ( I think from the Papermill originally), a bit of green petersham ribbon from my ribbon box, and the silver matting paper was from a pack I bought at Ally Pally a couple of years ago.

I couldn't decide which of the two images I coloured to use, so the other one with green grapes and cheese went on the back of the card!

90th Birthday

Made this card today for Iris, one of my mum's younger cousins, for her 90th Birthday next week.  Large A4 Card again.  She is almost blind, so wanted something with loads of texture and touchy- feely theme, and wanted to make it fairly large for her.  (As she lives at St Dunstan's - the pressure was on to get it right as it will be seen by the staff there!)

Backing paper and flowers from various Docrafts goody bags.  The 90 was cut out with a template from pink glitter card, which I also used for the matting of the main image.  Glitter card was from my stash (think it was C&C card from Wilkinsons).  Main image from "The Next Big Thing" cd, coloured with promarkers.  Purple imitation ribbon cut from Papermania pearlescent card with a tonic punch.  Finally a chiffon ribbon added (Joanna Sheen) to which I added a couple of peel-offs and a little head pin with beads on it, peel-off letters spelling Iris on the image, and some card candi for the centres of the flowers. 

I know she won't be able to see it, but hope she will be able to feel the different elements, if somebody describes them to her.

As she is one of my favourite "aunts" (yes I know she is really a cousin), but she was Auntie to me as a child, as we spent many happy times with her and her family on their farm, days out on the beach, and family holidays, and although I don't normally send her a present for her birthday, I am thinking of making a necklace, something simple on a cord that she can just slip over her head.

Before me she was the family historian, and she was a fount of information as she kept in touch with all the aunts, uncles and cousins in my mum's line.   I just wish she and mum hadn't gone blind before I needed them to recognise faces in photos for me.

New Baby Cards

Bet you had already guessed what the title of today's blog was going to be! :)

A4 Baby Card

Finished size of this pearlescent card is A4 - wow never made one this big before.  Image was from Inklined The Next Big One, coloured with promarkers, and then distressed with pink and  matted and layered onto purple and pink pearlescent card.  Pink chiffon ribbon and multi bow (made without a Bowdabra!), to which was added a darker pink metalic ribbon brooch that I had made earlier.  Finished off with some ribbon teddies and bows from my stash.

These next two close ups were taken outside - so they appear "bluer" than they really were.  (why does that always happen?).  The picture above has true colours!

I also  made a couple of 6" square cards for the new baby's sisters.  I think the images are from LOTV - I have had them in my stash for a while - all I can remember is that I bought them at Ally Pally. Mounted on a square doily bought from Ribbonbox whilst at Farnborough, which I edged with pink.  Personalised and a ribbon and gem added.   (I saw pre-made ribbon bows with gems at Farnborough - and thought I can make them cheaper - so I copied the idea!)

(tomorrow I will try and remember to photograph the "blue" topper that I prepared and didn't use! and I won't be hanging on to it , just in case as my DIL, who has had a rough time with this birth, said I can forget about getting a grandson!)

New Home

Another simple card (you know I only do simple) to welcome my new tenants to their new home.  The image is from Inklined "The Next Big Thing".  I created a border in Publisher, and then matted it onto some cream cardstock, which was edged with a purple metallic promarker.  I have also added a little flowersoft to the image (I always forget I have loads of this).  I also personalised the insert.

Heavy Metal Zentangle

Another Zentangle!  Hope you are not getting bored with them.  This one is for my niece Natalie who is into Heavy Metal music.  (I googled heavy metal for some inspiration and the blue symbols in the top right-hand corner seem to recur in a lot of posters - so had to use those.  I didn't manage to incorporate a guitar as she likes playing hers, but I did put the keyboard on for a smidgen of music.  Wasn't quite sure about the nuts and bolt representation, but they are "heavy metal"!   Coloured as the previous one with the 2012 spring edition Promarkers.

Daisy Card

As you can see I used one of yesterday's toppers on a card today.  This was quite different from the card I had sketched out in my head.  It was a toss up whether to use the guinea pig image from furry friends or one of the Daisy and Friends images I had coloured  - decisions, decisions.

Anyway this image won, and I put the one of the girl laying down on the back - as for the guinea pig image - that went on the insert!  (Me indecisive? nah - just can't make up my mind - so used all of them! LOL!)  Actually as Ellie is into Zentangle the choice of the main topper was really a no-brainer in the end!.

My granddaughter is not a "pink" person, so found this lovely purple card in my stash (think it was some C & C card from Wilkinson's).   Topper was mounted on silver mirri with a holographic ric rac peel-off around it.  Sentiment was on deep purple mirri.  I used my new tonic punch for the faux ribbon, and then ran a couple of the promarkers I used in the image over some flowers from my latest Docrafts  Goody Bag to tone in (they were originally white with pink spots), and finished them off with some little flower gems from my stash.

Hope she likes it - can't believe she is going to be 10 this week!
