Doodling: Hugs Heart

Another two day doodle.   I wasn't happy with the keyboard I drew in the heart - I had the lines to close together.   I drew another ribbon keyboard on the outside of the heart to prove I could do it properly!

Zellie - the Zentangled Elephant

Well here she is in all her glory - finished at last.  I decided to paint her headdress and "saddle" rahter than fusion them.

Slowly, slowly, catchee monkey - or in this case tangle elephant.

My biggest decision next is whether to tangle his saddle and headdress or to paint it.  Alternatively  tangle them and then colour the tangles.  Decisions, decisions!

Black and White! (and Zentangle)

Zentangled box

I was tidying up on Monday, and came across a couple of zentangled shapes that I had done some time ago. Didn't think much more about them at the time, but then in bed that night - inspiration struck.  (why does inspiration always strike, just as you are nodding off to sleep?).  Well I suddenly thought Black and White, so on Tuesday I painted a little box I bough from the Works with Pebeo black Gesso, and Pebeo Studio Mars Black acrylic, and drew some more Zentangles for the other sides.

When dry, today,  painted the back of the zentangles with Pebeo Bindex Brilliant, and attached the zentangles, to the box, and over-painted the whole thing with the Bindex.

For the inside I cut some shapes from some fat quarters, that looked as though they had been "tangled too", and attached them with watered down pva, and then overpainted them with the same.  (I did think of using the Bindex, but wasn't sure how it would work with material.

Finally I have given it a coat of Crafters Companion Spray and Shine.  Probably needs a couple more coats tomorrow.

The inside

Photo of the inside isn't that brilliant, as the glue is still drying!

It does look better in real life than in the photos!  So I am quite pleased with the result.

Tangling

I should have been ironing the other night, whilst watching tv, but felt in the mood for some zentangling instead.  (Much more relaxing !)

I got a free template for making felt flowers with one of my craft magazines, so decided to have a play with it for some tangling - so work in progress.   Just found some more templates in my stash whilst looking for something else - so think I may use those and "go with the flow"

Well after I posted the pictures last night, I did a bit more "tangling" and then I finished it this afternoon. 

Pretty pleased with it.

Work in Progress - Zentangled Boot

I bought an MDF boot back in February at Make It at Farnborough.   I didn't know what I was going to do with it just bought it on a whim, as it was the last one on the stall.

My granddaughter originally wanted it to decorate, but I insisted I was going to do something with it.  I prepared it with Gesso earlier in the week, and still wasn't sure what I was going to do with it.  Initially it was going to be paint-fusioned.  Having applied the gesso - inspiration struck, and I then painted it with white acrylic.  Last night whilst watching tv, I got my Micron pens out and started some "tangling".

Today I have done a little more.  I am now tryint to decide whether to leave the bottom "rim" white, or may be do something like a piano keyboard around the bottom.

Sassie's first Zentangle!

Whilst Sassie was up with me I showed her how to Zentangle - by jove I think she has got the hang of it!

The picture on the left was her trial run in pencil, coloured with promarkers.  Then another evening we decided to have another play - and look at the magnificent result on the right.  She has definitely got the knack, although I am not to sure of the subject matter as she made it for me.  Obviously thinks of me as the wicked witch!  - you can go off your friends sometimes - good job I love her!  Honestly I haven't got all that many broomsticks - only the one! LOL!  She is definitely hooked!

and unbeknown to her,  I was also creating a doodle for her at the same time, trying out my new coloured micron pens.  Unfortunately the photo shows up my rotten pencil shadows - hey ho!

So basically I have gone right off her - she can Zentangle better than me!  (Only joking Sass, about going off you!  x)  However, she is forgiven as she showed me how to upload photos on to my laptop.  (Heck I am missing my tower machine and my photo editing software that is on it.)

A zentangle for Hannah, with a bit of personalisation of footballs, and anchors, and pretty bag image from "The Next Big Thing"  and some ribbon to feminise it!  All coloured with promarkers and sakura sparkle.

Birthday Cakes!

A simple little card for one of today's family birthdays - this one is for my niece - Image is from Inklined "The Next Big Thing" coloured with promarkers.  Chose this image as recently she shared a photo of a rather gorgeous chocolate cake on FB, which I rather liked and she asked if I was volunteering to make it for her.  Unfortunately she has had to make do with these cakes instead!  (well they are less fattening!)

Of course I had to do a Zentangle for her, and I tried to use the colours that I used on the cakes.  Both images mounted onto red pearlescent card, to pick up the red in the images, and a couple of red flowers from my stash to finish.

Glass of red?

I've used an image from Inklined "The Next Big Thing" again for this card, coloured with Promarkers. I also drew a Zentangled M and tried to keep it masculine looking as the recipient is a man, again coloured with promakers.  Cardstock is some from my stash ( I think from the Papermill originally), a bit of green petersham ribbon from my ribbon box, and the silver matting paper was from a pack I bought at Ally Pally a couple of years ago.

I couldn't decide which of the two images I coloured to use, so the other one with green grapes and cheese went on the back of the card!

Mother's Day Card and Pressies!

Just had to share this pysychedilic card from my daughter for Mother's Day.   She loves Zentangles as much as me, and she is really good at them.  She drew a similar, but different one for her MIL.  The old sakura moonlight pens are getting an airing too!

And these were my pressies - so sorry there will be no escape from more tangles from me!

A card for Jacque

A card for my best pal Sassie, using my new Wishing on a Star cd1 - Daytime.  I don't have this shaped nestie so the image was cut out by hand!  Image has been sparkled.  I also created a little Zentangled initial for her, on a faux quilted background, drawn with a micron pen, and then coloured with sakura metallics, and some little sead beads added to the centres of the little blue flowers, to reflect her love of beadcraft, and her current quilting project, and a blue theme to the card as that is a favourite colour.

Flower Tangle

I subscribe to a zentangle blog and this week there was a link to a U-tube video about Zenspirational Dangles done by Joanne Spink - which I have yet to try.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFz0k2M39No

However, at the end of the video there were some further links to Joanne's work.  One was a downloadable set of letters/initials, and the other were some inspirational ideas for flowers.

This is my first attempt at a flower - probably the first flower I have ever drawn in my life that looks like a flower!  I roughed out the outline in pencil first, then went over it properly with my micron pen.  The flower was then coloured with promarkers, and a bit of distressing added from a big and juicy pad.  (yes ok - need more practise at distressing!).  Am a bit chuffed with the flower, as I can't freehand draw for toffee  -  even my husband said he recognised what it was supposed to be!

I am going to have to have a look to see if I have any suitable stamps that I can adapt!

This picture shows two of Joanne's "how to bit" from her pdf - the first one is the basic outline for the flower, and the second one she coloured using a computer.  The one on the right is of course my effort.

So the next step is to do a few variations, and try the ZenDangles!

MCS meets Zentangle

Mens cards are so difficult aren't they!   I wanted a motorbike theme, but also fancied encorporting a bit of Zentangle!   I used an image from MCS Men-Y-Happy returns cd , which I saved as a pdf, then imported it into Publisher and created a frame for it.  Printed if off and then played - doodling some tangling!   It took most of the afternoon yesterday, but it kept me out of mischief!

Because the image itself is quite plain and dark, and although it looked good in Black and White, I decided to use my promarkers and colour it.  I am really pleased with the result.  Topper was then mounted on silver mirri onto cream cardstock, and a peel-off from my stash added.

A is for Anne

I doodled this little tangle this morning, whilst killing time waiting for my eyes to return to normal after having drops at the eye clinic this morning.  Was quite surprised how well it turned out considering I couldn't see that well.    My hubby had his weekly dressing treatment at the surgery this morning, so I created this for his nurse Anne, as I had promised to show her some of my "tangles".

I felt compelled to do something creative today, as I spent yesterday doing absolutely nothing, apart from sitting on facebook chatting to various members of the family, whilst we waited news of birth of my newest grandchild.  (I have never known so many of the family and friends be on FB at one time wiating for news!)

My son and DIL went to the hospital yesterday morning, as DIL was having contractions.  Everything seemed to be going well for a while and we were all waiting with baited breath, and then after lunch it all STOPPED!   This morning just as I was leaving for the eye clinic, my son rang to say he had come  home during the night, and was going to pick Kate up as they were sending her home!   They were devastated as she is already a week overdue, and originally the midwives thought it would arrive early as baby was so big!   So we wait again for it all to kick off.   The burning question is will it or won't it be a Leap Year baby!  Hopefully she is getting some rest, and renewing her strength for the big push!

I hope it won't be too long - apart from anything else, her father flew over from Switzerland yesterday to see the baby - we were at one point taking bets on who would arrive first him or the baby - obviously he won.  I haven't heard whether he is staying on or has gone back to work! 

So if anybody has got any positive vibes spare - could they direct them at Kate and get this baby moving!

Heavy Metal Zentangle

Another Zentangle!  Hope you are not getting bored with them.  This one is for my niece Natalie who is into Heavy Metal music.  (I googled heavy metal for some inspiration and the blue symbols in the top right-hand corner seem to recur in a lot of posters - so had to use those.  I didn't manage to incorporate a guitar as she likes playing hers, but I did put the keyboard on for a smidgen of music.  Wasn't quite sure about the nuts and bolt representation, but they are "heavy metal"!   Coloured as the previous one with the 2012 spring edition Promarkers.

Today I am sharing something special created by my daughter.  She did this for Thinking Day.   February 22nd  is the day Guides (and Scouts) remember the founders of their movements Lord and Lady Baden-Powell  It was their joint birthdays.

So for all Guiding and Scouting pals (past and present) and any followers that have been part of Guiding at some point in their lives - Happy Thinking Day.
