Top coating some paint pours

I was going to apply resin to these paint pours I did a short while ago, but it decided to experiment with a Viva product, which although called pouring medium, I discovered was suitable for a top coat, and it states it is weather and heat proof.

It has worked very well and was a lot faster drying than resin!    It has really brought the colours to life, although you may not be able to appreciate the effects in the photos.   There is a lot of silver in the pours, and it is difficult to catch the effect in a photo.

Paint Pouring and a Resin Geode

 As I am so far behind with blog posts, I am combing two posts today.  I used some of the left over resin from the jewellery to start a geode.    This is the back of the geode, which was the first layer I did.  I didn't like the effect much, so when I poured the second layer I used slightly different colours and some gold leaf flakes.

This was the finished result.

I then did some paint poring with a ready mixed paint kit that I had, which contained various blues, a beige, white, silver and gold.  The silver was brilliant - although you can't appreciate it in the photos.  Maybe when I have either top coated them or resined them it will show up better in the photos.

This first one started off as lines of paint dribbled across the surface - and then I went a bit mad!

This one was poured over the cut off end of a small water bottle - look at that silver!

I have been trying a new technique with paint pouring, with a product from the Glass Hut.   I haven't quite mastered the technique yet, as I am not getting the cells - I think itis to do with the black paint I am using - I need a thicker paint.   This one wasn't too bad, but the ones around the edge weren't so good

This one was quite pleasing - but still no cells.

This one seemed to go completely wrong - so I ended up drawing a kebab stick through it - quite like the effect, even if it wasn't what I was aiming for.

I did this paint pour a few weeks ago (if  you remember it was supposed to be a balloon smash between two colours that went a bit wrong).  I thought it looked like waves, so I added a surfer to it (I confess it was a printed  free image from the net.  I tried to paint it freehand on a scrap of paper, evern tracing the outline, but no I was not good enough.  

I therefore gave in, and after working out the size I wanted (by importing it into Craft Artist) I set to to cut it out ... not that easy with my dodgy eyes I an tell you!

I then attached and applied resin over it - and retty pleased with the result.

 Excuse the messy  photo - paint pouring can be a messy business.  I hope you can see where the geode ends against the mess underneath.

This was a first experiment for me.  I had tried to pour the paint in rings, but it decided to do its own thing, even though it was on a levelling table.   The colours are blue, turquoise, green, black, white and purple (created by mixing red and blue).   I used ready prepared pouring paint from the Glass Hut.

So okay it did it's own thing and I wasn't to sure about it - but I threw some glass chippings on it (from Dunelm) and hoped for the best.   I wasn't sure whether it would work or whether I would need to try and colour the glass chippings with alcohol inks first (that will be a different experiment I think).  When it is dry I will apply some clear resin over it.   It takes a few weeks for the paint to "cure" before I can resin it - so will share a picture of the finish article in due course.

I have another geode blank and that is currently drying with white gesso on it, and I shall try and pour that one with just resin  (watch this space)

So following on from the blue paint pour, I tried again using a slightly different technique, still not what I had set out to do, but I saw this idea on Utube.

I spread white paint over a piece of MDF, and then dropped small amounts of colour along the centre - two shades of blue and red - and then balloon smashed them to create "flowers".   I then added some drops of green either side and drew those out with a skewer.  (Having taken the photo I realised there was a foreign object in one piece of green - this has now been removed - it was a piece of cotton - goodness knows where that came from I had no cotton near where I was working!)  I shall take another photo later.

I quite like this  - so when it is dry and "cured" I shall probably pour some resin over it.

It is a while since I have done any paint pouring.   I wanted to try a particular technique, but it didn't quite work.  Originally I wanted blue in one corner and white in the other, with a balloon smash along the centre line!   I couldn't get the effect I wanted - so added more dark blue along the join of the colours and attempted to balloon smash that - erm no - so undaunted I proceed to do various balloon smashes with white on blue and blue on white!  Oh well I suppose it looks like waves on the sea.  I need to try and add the figure of a surfer on it somewhere!
