Grandchildren's Art Journals

I had a couple of the grandchildren for a sleepover, and they wanted to craft - so I let them have a couple of my art journals, and they created these covers for them.    Didn't they do well.

They gessoed the covers and then added Pebeo Violet/Blue DYNA paint.   The created the embellishments with Hearty Air dry clay and Katy Sue Mould;  which one painted with Posca pens, and they both applied Pebeo gilding wax to them.   They then created dots using the Royal Talens Effect Liners/

Owl Plaque

I had great fun building and painting this  plaque from Olifantjie.    The back had black gesso applied, and then was painted with my favourite Pebeo Blue/Black DYNA paint, and oversprayed with Montan effect in white.

The owl, branch and flowers were painted with various Amsterdam paints and for the claws I mixed some Cosmic Shimmer Fluffy Stuff with yellow acrylic to create texture on the claws.    The yes were painted with a mixture of Pebeo Vitrail and Fantasy paints to give that glassy-eyed look.  The centre of the flowers had some Nuvo drops added.     The rim was sponged with a mixture of Jade, Aqua and Clotted Cream Starlights paint.  Finally a coat of spray and shine was applied.

Paint Storage Part 1

 

I need some storage for some of my Pebeo paints - and this was perfect.  I couldn't wait to start painting it when it dropped through the letterbox.

I decided to use my favourite paints - the Pebeo DYNA iridescent paints.   A coating of black gesso was applied first and then I just randomly sponged on the colours.

 It was a bit interesting putting the little unit together!   I was all going very well until I came to putting on the second side!  I nearly gave up at this point.  I spent a couple of hours trying to do it, then decided to leave it and come back to it when I was less frustrated.  Obviously you know that I did manage to do it!

The frustration nearly overwhelmed me at this stage!

and finally here it is with my bottles of Pebeo Fantasy paints in it - stored upside down so that not only can I see the colours, but also as the paint settles in the bottom, storing them upside down helps a lot.  (another 12 to go in the other side! - so it is Fantasy Moon on one side and Fantasy Prismé on the other).

I did do a little more to it - adding a bit of gilding wax on the edges of the shelves and sides, and some detail, but you will see that in the next posting

Mixed Media Canvas

I have been playing with some metal items from Chocolate Baroque today.    I started with a black canvas.

I then added some black texture paste to it through a stencil with my finger.   This smudged slightly in one corner, but as it was just a random texture that I wanted it didn't matter.  I also added some dots of texture paste around the canvas, using what was left on my finger!

Whilst this was drying, a applied black gesso to the metal elements, and also applied a coat of black gesso to the canvas.

The metal items were then coloured - either with pebeo DYNA paints or some metallic lustres, (blue, greens and white frost).   The canvas then had a coat of Pearl Black Pebeo Creme paint applied to it. Then it was the fun part sticking on the embelishments using a hot glue gun, and then adding some little diamantes to the centre of the flowers

Another Fairy Door

You may recall back in September last year I made a fairy door.  Well my youngest granddaughter really fell in love with it, and wanted to take it home.  I promised to make her one, and at last I have got around to finishing it.

This is the door bought from the Works (see further down for the actual product).  I removed the hinges and latch.  I then used a stencil for the surround and applied Pebeo concrete paste.   This was then painted with a light grey and then various shades of grey, cream and green was applied with a sponge to create the stone effect.

The door had various brown distress inks applied to it with a little water, and then I sprinkled some UTE powder on it (Ultra Thick Embossing powder), which I heated to create the worn look.  Finally some more distress ink was applied over the embossing powder - actually I used Violet!  I then re-attached the hinges and latch.  (It remained in this state for a while - I think I actually posted a work in progress some weeks ago!)

Another View

Today I made the flowers and foliage.  I confess I had to look back at my original post last year to remember how I did them - oops!    The Flowers and larger leaves were die cut from Sheena's anemone set; the fern and smaller leaves were Sizzix dies.

I stamped the leaves with versamark and then embossed them (didn't do this last time - shame I didn't realise could have saved time!)  I then painted everything with various Pebeo Dyna paints.  Then having read last year's post, I applied a little Pebeo Mixtion Relief on the petals and leaves and drag it in to the centre with a paint brush.  When dry I applied silver and gold mirror foil.

I painted a few shells from my stash (they either came from The Works or The Range - I forget). Finally the flowers etc were assembled and some little gems applied to the Centres (Crafty Crocodiles).

Hopefully I have a happy granddaughter now and there will be no nagging (at least for a while until she sees something else I have created and want the same!)

MDF Christmas Baubles

I finished off my day painting in the sunshine on Tuesday with these two mdf "baubles"  (with apologies of posting something christmassy so early), but I had all the DYNA iridescent paints out on the table, and I had prepared them with black gesso a few weeks back.

I forget at which stand I bought them at the Sandown show in July, but it was the same place that I bought the 3D fairy doors etc.

I painted them with green/blue, then sponged on blue/green, violet/blue silver and gold DYNA paints in a random fashion,  The edges were outlines with Pebeo Silver Marker, and a few random dots of the same applied.

A Gnome House

I teased you the other day with a glimpse of work in progress on my gnome house.   It was such a glorious day today (Tuesday - yes sorry I have scheduled this blog) I sat outside and painted and took advantage of the hot, hot day.  I didn't even venture to the den, but sat on the patio to work in the sunshine.    I wish it had been more like this in the Summer, there is so many bits in the Den that I could play with.

I started off by painting a tissue box - but more of that tomorrow.  I then decided to paint the Gnome House I created from a bottle.

The one I painted the other day, I use the varnish and powders that came with the Powertex kit, but I just knew I wanted to use the Pebeo DYNA iridescent paints on this one.

and I have to share this too - my palette for the day - before I wash it all off.   I did think that I ought to cut it and mount it as a piece of abstract art - lol!   I thought I could call it "A Study in Pebeo"

When my granddaughters came to visit last week, I promised to paint up some hand mirrors for them,, that I had bought at the Sandown Craft Show; and asked them to choose what colour etc they wanted.

These are the results of my handiwork.   I was panicking that I had got their "orders" right - but can confirm that I did - and they were thrilled with them when they collected them this week!   phew!

They were all painted with white gesso, and then .....

B's was painted white, and then silver stripes applied with metallic marker (using masking tape).

T's was painted with blue-green Dyna and sponged with the purple DYNA.  I then painted some little paint fusion roses around it.

C's  was also white - but she wanted flowers on it - so she had larger roses painted on hers

The initials for all three were drawn free-hand using Mixtion relief paste, which had silver foil applied, and then the outlines were flooded with various Pebeo Fantasy paints to give the effect of enamel.
