Paint pouring with a difference

I have had some old eucalyptus logs for a while, and they have been calling to me to do something to them.   Obviously I have had to wait for them to season, and with this recent spell of hot weather, I decided they were dry enough to do something with them.

First of all I painted them with Crystal Glitter paint and then I did some paint pouring on them with Pebeo Vitrail and then Pebeo Moon and Prismé paints.  I literally just poured the paints randomly over them and let them do their ow thing.   I did use a kebab stick to mix a few of the colours into each other, and then splodged some of the colours around the edge at the end with a paintbrush.

The really look good in real life with an "enamelled" finish to them.    The grandchildren will now be able to sit on them and toast their marshmallow over the firepit!

The picture below show them last year.  (As regular readers of the blog will be aware the poor old useless chiminea has been recycled as a fairy house and now resides up the garden in a flower bed.)

Upcycling from this ......

........  erm looks interesting .... not

coated with Powertex and a few features added

.... here's a clue

a Fairy Door MDF kit given a coat of Powertex

and finally ......

........ a Fairy House

Yes I decided that rather than throw my poor frost damaged and useless chiminea (it would never drawn properly when you lit it), I would upcycle it into a Fairy House.

I started with giving it a coat of Powertex, and using an old dishcloth repaired the chipped opening, and then using strips of t-shirt material I made a "vine" to wind around it.   I also had an MDF Fairy Door kit in my stash, which was an almost perfect fit for the opening.

I then gave the whole thing and the stand a coat of Crystal Glitter Black Diamond paint, and added some texture and crackle paste to the fairy door and some acrylic paint.

I then made some flowers from FMM air dry clay  (oh gosh I am loving that product). and painted the flowers, leaves and some of the shapes I had already stuck on with Powertex,  with POSCA pens and acrylic pens.   These were then attached with more Powertex, as was the door.   Finally I painted the roses on the lid and on the side, and gave it a quick spray of varnish.

Ta da ..... no longer a useless bit of garden furniture, but a feature for one of the flower beds.

More Paint Fusion - Planters

A finished planter

A pal liked what I had done to my hanging baskets and asked if I could paint some planters for her.  Once again I used the Black sparkle paint, this time silver sparkle.

The three finished planters

The first thing to be painted was the rose  (freehand)

To get the positioning right for the daisy, I stamped the
outline first with white acrylic paint before painting them properly

If it doesn't move it'll get painted ....

Yes it's a bit like that at the moment ....... am loving the sparkle paint so much.   This first project was to give a coat of paint to the rusty sun umbrella stand.   It has come up a treat.  (Mind you I am wondering whether a touch of gilding wax on the roses would look OTT).

revamped sun umbrella stand
Next on the list was a revamp of some bamboo wind chimes, that were last painted 7 years ago.

work in progress
The finished article.  As with previous posts I painted the bamboo with the black sparkle paint, and then using the paint fusion technique I decorated the chimes.

and the "dangler"

The wind chimes before I started - as you can see
they had become rather faded over the years.
I decided to keep to the one theme of roses and daisies.   However, I do have another set of bamboo chimes, so perhaps they will have a more random painting on them  :)

More sunshine - more Paint Fusion

Yes the sun was out again yesterday, and so was the glitter paint.   The wall pot was in fact terracotta - yes this paint goes on anything!  It's a shame the photo doesn't do it justice but all those little flecks in the paint actually shine, red, green and gold in the sunshine!

The pot itself has an imprinted design on it, which I had painted before, and I had intended just to paint black around the top and bottom, but it proved a tad difficult, so the whole pot was painted wih the black glitter and then the details picked out in acrylic paint.

Next to b tackled was my clog - this too had been painted before, but was looking a tad tired, so the black with gold was applied to this.  (I am in love with this colour and have ordered more as I only had a small pot.    The leaves are indented into the moulding, so they were picked out first, and then some michaelmas daisies painted amongst the leaves.    A rose was painted on the front.

I felt it needed something on the toe - so painted some grape hyacinths and some rosebuds, and added a few dots.   I also added a few dots around the top of the plant holder bit.  (see first picture of clog)

Finally - a quick glimpse of one of the planted hanging basket, and wall planters in situ.
