Man's card

Oh how I hate men's cards!   However, thanks to my MCS disks and my CAP2 programme I came up with this for my nephew's birthday this week.

The background and the steering wheel were CAP elements, and the "Have a Great Day" was also created in CAP.  The rest of the elements were from MCS.  I used the stencil tool to create the musical notes in the glasses.

Oh yes and I created the imitation arrow using CAP2, which if you click on the image you will see marks the "double 19" on the dartboard for his age!

Card for Ben

I made this today for a pal for her grandson's 18th.  Ben is training as a chef in London, and is rarely parted from his Ipad.

I created the backing paper in MCS using a couple of images of signature dishes from the place he is training at, and also one where he has done some work experience.  Printed on Conqueror paper to give it a sheen.

I then found an image of a chef's hat (hope he wears a white one!), which I distressed around the edges,  and also an image of an Ipad, to which I added computer generated greeting.  Both images were mounted on Conqueror card and black satin finish card.

Because I didn't know whether he wears chef's "whites" or the chef black and white trousers etc, I included a strip of black and white checked card as a faux ribbon.  All mounted on an A5 Navy blue card.

It wasn't quite what I had in mind for his card, as originally wanted to do something with a card in the shape of a chef's hat, and with a sort of cartoon chef - but it just wouldn't come together - so hope he likes this one, and appreciates the "personalised" backing paper.  (I shall have to explain to his gran - in case he doesn't pick up on the nuance!

New Baby Card

A simple card for friends of my son, who have just had a new addition to their family.   Created with MCS The Artist Collection - Smudge.

Riley wasn't due to arrive into the world until beginning of March - he has beaten my newest grandchild into the world!  (Our latest grandchild is due tomorrow - will it or won't it arrive on time?  Hurry up baby I want to meet you!)

Sailing

Sailing!

Male cards are always difficult,  but I had a bit of inspiration with this one for my great nephew.  I know he does a lot of sailing, and when we were at a family christening recently I took a photo looking across from Portchester Castle to Portsmouth.  My g-nephews had earlier that morning been sailing across the inlet, and were saying how weird it was to be sailing within sight of where they would be later that day so .....

I converted one of my photos taken that day to all blue and used it as the background paper, which I matted onto blue card..  I copied the image and added the wording, and then cropped it so that I could raise it up on the original image, and match it to the skyline, but didn't create a mat for it.   I wasn't sure what sort of yacht/dinghy he normally sails so I had to take pot luck with the main image, which was also matted onto blue cardstock, and mounted it on foam tape.  Fortunately there were no markings on the yacht in the picture, so was able to just add the peel-offs to it.

When I recoloured the picture - I took the yacht image into MCS and colour matched the backing paper to part of the blue sky.  The words were colour matched to the sea in the image.

I wonder if he will realise the significance of the background paper - I may have to tell him!  (with a bit of luck - he may just recognised the Spinnaker Tower on the skyline!).

thanks for popping by.

Ruby Wedding Card

Image from MCS - Click, Print, Go! - Stephanies Roses & Painting Pages.  Centre of Rose and Leaves decoupaged.  Squares of red vellum passed through my heart ribbler and trimmed with woodware trimmer, and some red ribbon from my stash added.

I originally bought this CD to practise painting roses - but I thought I would use one of the images for a card.
When I can paint as well as Steph - perhaps I will paint a card.

LIM: 70th Birthday Card

I wanted to try another Less is More card for this card for a forum pal.   Green Papermania Shimmer Textured card stock.  The green squares (mounted on silver mirri) and the green imitation ribbon were from MCS Print Click Go Paper Flower Expert, with an additional piece of green ribbon from my cake decorating stock added.  Finished off with a large 70 peel off and a couple of Flora Doodles and a sentiment from my stash (amazing how some yellow tint has shown on the Flora Doodle Flower - as there was no yellow showing on the actual flower!   Photography is a stange thing sometimes!)

Birthday Card

I so liked the effect of the writing on the christening acceptance card, that I used the technique for this birthday card and because I wanted to achieve a "Less is More" look, just added a decoupaged flower from MCS Click Print Go flowers to match.

Acceptance Card

Just a simple card today - the wording was created in Craft Artist Platinum, saved as a jpeg, then converted to a png in Paintshoppro, and then put into MCS and the candle added from the MCS Celebrations cd.  The wording has a sort of marbled effect and I have highlighted it with clear sakura sparkle pen.

Iggle Piggle Cakes & Card

It is my youngest granddaughter's second birthday on Sunday.  She is adores Iggle Piggle.  My daughter-in-law wanted to make her main cake - so I offered to make some fairy cakes, knowing that they are all the rage now.   Must confess I don't "DO" fairy cakes as a rule - apart from adding a bit of water icing or turning them into butterflies!  However, at a recent sugarcraft show - everything was fairy cakes, so I treated myself to some cutters (the large cakes) and also a head mould, which I used for the little cakes.  Hopefully the children will think they look like Iggle Piggle and Upsy Daisy!
The large cup cakes were iced with  Burgundy M&B Paste with a Regalice flower added and a few pink sugar sprinkles.  The mini cakes were iced with Karen Davies sugarpaste - vanilla flavour for Iggle Piggle and Marshmallow flavour for Upsy Daisy.

as you will see these compliment the card I have made for her

The card was created using some Daisy and Dandelion images and put together in MCS.  Iggle Piggle, present and the two cup cakes on the right were decoupaged.   You can't really see it from the picture, but quite a bit of Sakura glitter and clear glaze pens were used on the image.  The sentiment was added to the picture in Craft Artist Platinum.  Just updated this photo as decided to add some flowers to compliment the cakes!

Chocolate!

My niece was raving about something incredibly "chocolatey" she had eaten the other day on FB - which inspired this simple chocolate card for her.

Ivory hammered card stock, chocolate and gold ribbon.  Image and chocolates from MCS.  Image is mounted on some gorgeous craftwork cards papers in ivory and chocolate, and mounted on foam tape, as are the chocolates.   The photo doesn't do the chocolates justice - they look good enough to eat!

Cake & Card for a 9 year old!

The request from my eldest granddaughter was for a cake with a ten-pin with a cowboy hat on it, to match her birthday invites, and to reflect the fact that she and her friends are going ten-pin bowling and then for a meal at the local Smith and Western restaurant!   I confess the ten-pin was harder to model than I first thought it would be - still as my Dad would have said "A blind man would be pleased to see it!"   As she is also a ballet dancer I added an extra element!  It also compliments the Birthday Card I made for her.   (Shame the word "Birthday" is a bit wonky, didn't show up until I took the photo! - obviously the old eyesight isn't what it used to be - mind you it is very difficult piping on a sponge cake, as you can't rest your hand on the edge of the cake to steady it - so everything is piped very much free-hand in the air - and I had to do that twice as the pink colour is over-piped over white to raise it up!)

another view showing the hearts around the side edge - as her birthday is Valentine's Day

and this is the card I made using backing papers and a bear from Forever Friends.  The Bear and the skittles and the cowboy hat were all decoupaged.  (note:  I too the liberty of putting the cowboy hat on the bear rather than the skittle!)  I have overwritten the wording I created on the skittle in MCS with a little clear sakura glitter pen.  I have also glitted the bands on the skittles and added a little to the bear (I think if you click on the picture you can just about see it!)

simple Chinese New Year Card

We're celebrating some family birthdays tomorrow at one of our local Chinese restaurants - we are regular customers there - so thought it would be nice to give them a card this year.   Very simple - some lucky plum blossom, Year of the Rabbit symbol and Happy New Year in Chinese.

New Home Card

I love this image from Joanna Sheen's Cardmaker's Year.   I took the image into MCS and faded it out to make the backing paper image, and faux layered the main image .  Backing image then mounted onto gold paper from my stash (Lakeland papers - oh I wish they still sold those! - haven't got much left, so saved for special cards!)  Sentiment also created in MCS and mounted on gold mirri.

The sentiment inside the card reads:  "A House is made of wood and beams, a Home is made of love and dreams" - my favourite sentiment for a new home card.
