Parchment Rose Card

Well most of you know I am not that good at parchment, but I do try.  (yes I know what you are saying .... she is very trying ... or is that just what my family say - lol!)

I thought I was doing so well until I came to put the card together.  Can you see my booboo - well if you can't I will tell you - the bottom right hand corner should be a little higher.  I could have then positioned the parchment more in the centre of the card and I wouldn't have had to search for peel-offs to camouflage the mistake!  duh!

I did try and make another piece, and made an even worse mess - so I am hoping my crafty pal won't notice too much.   Trouble is she make the most amazing cards, and I shall never be in her league!  However, it is the thought that counts.

The rose etc was done on white parchment and then one of the Clarity backing papers was put behind it.   The rose was coloured with promarkers.

Card for a 16 year old

My eldest granddaughter is 16 this week, and I created this card for her, using a bit of parching and one of the trees that I created the other week.   (Painstakingly cutting it out as you can see from the original below!)

Celtic Parchment Birthday Card

I treated myself (well I treated myself, my daughter and granddaughter) to the celtic groovi boards as we all dabble in parchment - they more than me!

Anyway I decided to have a play before they got their hands on them, and created this for my sister-in-law's birthday later this week.   It is a narrow DL shaped card.  I do love Celtic designs.

Nowhere near perfect, but I am getting there.   I do struggle a bit with the old eyes, but with the help of the light box and also my little daylight magnifying glass I think I did a reasonable job!

Parchment card

I confess I am not that proficient at parchment work - I need to practise more.  Not helped by the fact that my eyes aren't so good these days, even using the Groovi system. However, I wanted to create something in parchment for my daughter's card to go with the Groovi bits I have bought for her birthday.

We share a lot of our parchment bits, and we purchased the McIntosh inspired plates a few weeks ago, and before I gave them to her - I had a little play with one of them, and decided that I would incorporate the image into a card.

I know it is not perfect, and having watched some demos this week, I know where I went wrong!  However, the overall effect is not bad, and actually resembles what I was trying to achieve with the off-centre circles, and the die cut flowers.  (I can't remember which dies I used from my stash for the flowers, leaves and butterflies as they were various makes, and I just grabbed what I thought would work from my stash)!

The circle dies were he stitched circles by Sue Wilson from Creative Expressions.   I also used Nuvo Jewel Drops on the stitching of the dies, the centre of the flowers and in the corners of the card.

Parchment Owl

I tried my hand at some parchment work yesterday.  I haven't done a lot before, but this gorgeous owl was part of my Clarity Club Groovi goodies for this month, and I just had to play, and chose some coloured parchment to work on.

I found it  a bit difficult to capture what it looks like in real life with the photo - I may update the photo when the weather improves and I can get better daylight!

Mind you it wasn't quite as straightforward as planned.  Having sat with the instructions from Barbara Gray on how to do the black outline etc, and followed religiously, I couldn't work out why the "white work" wasn't showing that well - well duh dipstick me - it does help if you work on the correct side of the coloured parchment.   Shown below his my first attempt and faux pas working on the wrong side!

(Actually now that it is mounted it doesn't look too  bad, and the photograph make it look lighter than it really is!

 I gather I am not the first person to work on the wrong side, and as a pal said "You are a parcher now - we have all done that at least once".

More Chirstmas Groovi

Sorry about using the "C" word - but it was so miserable and wet and cold yesterday - more like Autumn than Summer, so I got the Groovi Board out and had a play.  If this weather keeps up I shall have finished the Chrimbo cards by the end of August!

I think I am gradually getting the hang of the Groovi Board, and using my pencils.  The only thing I fouled up on was trying to punch the dots on the partridge one - but we learn by our mistakes! However, I am realy pleased with the shading with the pencils.

A bit of Groovi Board Parching

I couldn't get up in the Den today to do more to my "canvas" project, so I had a little play with the Groovi Board and some parchment.

It is still a bit of a learning curve, and am restricted to what I can do until my Christmas boards order arrives from Create and Craft (and they seem to be a bit slow this week! - I would have bought them elsewhere, but I had a £10 off voucher and it would have been rude not to use it!)

There is also the question of how to "fix" the parchment, and I would normally use brads, but with postage costs being what they are I wanted to keep the finished result as slim as possible.   I found a corner punch in my stash that I had forgotten I had, and used that -  but it wasn't quite right.  I don't really like the fancy corner it cuts, and I had to colour the slot with a black promarker, as that looked a bit weird with the cream of the card showing through.  It looks like a search of the net is in order to find a suitable corner slot punch.  (Let me know if you know where there are any for sale.)

The piece above was my second effort and below is my first - wouldn't have been too bad if I hadn't mucked up the snowflake.  But onwards and upwards as they say.

If anybody has got any good ideas as to how to fix parchment to a card without brads, please do let me know.

A bit of Parching!

My eldest granddaughter got sent home from school yesterday about midday, having nearly passed out with the heat.   She said that the heating was on in school too !!!!!!   They are doing a lot of building works, at the school and building a lot of new classrooms, and I think they are having a few "issues".  They had the fire alarm go off and they had to stand out in the sun for 45 mins, which didn't help!

Anyway once fed and well watered, and having quietly sat and done some homework, she decided she wanted to play with my Groovi board, so to keep her company I delved in my stash, and found my pergamano tools that I had never managed to get to grips with, and some patterns, and sat alongside her and created this little bookmark.

It is nowhere near perfect, but pleased with the attempt, and it kept me quiet in the heat!

Parchment card - a semi fail!

I thought I would try one of my new embossing folders with parchment.  Ads expected worked a treat, and proceeded to colour it in with spectrum noir pencils .......

.... then came the "fail" .  I thought I would be clever and try an experiment using another embossing folder and try and add "Christmas" with an embossing tool.  Worked quite well - IF ONLY I had positioned the word correctly.  (Well it was quite difficult to see the outline).

Next time I will use my Groovi Board for the wording!
