Clay Figurine

Another make, whilst my crafty pal was staying.  Made the figurine with Hearty Clay  ()air drying).

Her head, body and arms were made with the clay coloured flesh with powder cake decorating colours.  Using a kebab stick the body and head were stuck onto a polystyrene cone.

I then dressed her bodice and skirt and also her arms with white clay (i.e. straight from the packet), and attached the arms to the body, and made some hair with "squiggles" of clay.

When she was dry, I painted her with Pebeo DYNA iridescent acrylic paints.  Yellos/Green and green/blue for her dress and gold for her belt.  Colour was Pebeo white titanium.  Her hair was also painted with the DYNA iridescent using various colours, including gold, bronze asnd blue/black.

Finally she was sprayed with Crafter's Companion spray and shine to seal her.

My first attempt at a dream catcher.  I bought the kit in The Works for £1 - bargain!

Faux Leather

Whilst my pal Sassie was staying with me, I taught her how to make faux leather:  We mainly used Crafter's Companion embossing folders as demonstrated by Sheena Douglass.

We used mainly Distress inks, apart from the owl card, which had a bit more added to the inked faux leather (see details on that further down)

Owl Card

The owl card was made using the leaf vein embossing folder faux leather, which was then painted with green/blue, blue/green, yellow/green and precious gold Pebeo DYNA iridescent paints.   The owl made from a piece of the woodgrain embossed faux leather, and was painted with a mixture of golds in same paints and then die cut with a Joanna Sheen Owl die.

Birthday Box

Gosh is it really that long since I blogged - me Bad.  However, I have had a little excuse for past couple of weeks as I have had a crafting pal staying.

I have loads of bits and bobs to share, so will start with this little box ....

Which I made for one of my granddaughters.   She saw the box in my stash and asked if she could have it for her birthday,  She chose what colour and stamps that she wanted on it.

The box was gessoed, and then a mix of Titanium white and Pebeo DYNA iridescent pink was painted all over it, giving it a slightly distress look.

I used the humming bird and hibiscus stamps from Sheena Douglass, and stamped with Stazon and painted with various of the DYNA iridescent paints.

I felt it needed something on the side drawers, so I painted some peel offs with the same paints.  Finally a coat of spray and shine was applied to seal it..

70 Years Ago today

In the garden VE Day 1945

70 years ago it was VE Day and I was there, albeit a babe in arms.  My Dad and some pals wre given a 48 hours pass to join in the celebrations - so the all ended up at our house - sleeping on the floor.

My mum told me that they joined the throngs in the Mall dancing their way up to Buckingham Palace, chanting for the King and Queen to come out onto the balcony, which I gather they did a lot of times!  I was on my parents shoulders.

Apparently the next morning, they all awoke to discover a Belisha Beacon in the front garden - and nobody knew how it got there - at least nobody was telling if they knew!  It has been a standing joke and family story since then.

Playing with new paints

I have been playing with some new purchases and experimenting.  The first was a little lid:

One of my garden fairies was looking a bit down (I did paint her last year, but wasn't that happy with the effect.  However I used my new Pebeo Dyna Iridescent Studio Acrylics on her, and then a coat of varnish.  Pleased with her now!

MDF Pencil holder

.... well I got around to finishing it now that my new iridescent paints arrived, and used my new stamps from Sheena Douglass

Had a little problem stamping the image to start - it wouldn't emboss - obviously my powder was past its use by date - lol!   as it is ages since I did any stamping and embossing!  so I found some really, really old Inca powder from about 1993-ish. when my daughter was demonstrating for Inca - worked a treat - shame they went out of business their products were ace!

Mixed Media and .....

.... a little play with the youngest granddaughters.

Miniature Mixed Media Canvas

On Saturday my youngest granddaughters popped in to see me, and after an impromptu bacon butty lunch, they wanted to "raid" my Den.   It seems in future I must learn to buy 3 of everything as they all wanted to use the same things!

Having shown them the "HOME" letters that I painted with Pebeo Ceramic and Fantasy paints, they wanted to know how to do it

They all took turns in dropping some red vitrail paint onto the canvas and then choosing the Fantasy paints that they wanted to drop into the centre as well as some of the glitter vitrail.   They were fascinated by the reaction of the paints.   Needless to say it required 24 hours to dry so they didn't see the effect of their finished "splodges".

As I wasn't sure when I would see them next, I hadded a couple of splodges of my own, and when dry I carefully filled in the background with black ceramic paint, and when that was dry I added some squiggles with Pebeo Mixion and when that was tacky I added a few gilding flakes.  The edge of the board was finished off by applying two shades of gold Pebeo gilding wax.

It may only be tiny, but when the sun catches it ......... fantastic effect.

Amazing what you can do with a few kebab sticks and some paint - i.e. no brush was applied to the canvas at all.

Garden Toadstool

I decided to give one of my garden ornaments a make-over.

The whole thing was painted with gesso and then over-painted with varoius acrylic paints.

Work in progress pen holder

faux metal heart.

I love this little ornate heart, which fortunately matched up fairly well with a plain mdf heart.  (wish I could remember where I got it)

The both hearts were painted with black pebeo gesso, and the plain heart then over painted with black acrylic, and edge with silver gilding wax.

The ornate heart was painted with patches of mixed blue and green metallic paints (Studio 3).  and then rubbed over with Pebeo silver gilding wax, polished up, and the two hearts stuck together and then sprayed with spray and shine.

Just needs some pretty ribbon to hang it up - I think some nice turquoise.
