doodling - a little practice scene

Yesterday, before we completed the kite doodle we learned how to draw a little scene in a circular frame.   This was my attempt of a rocky cove.

Doodling - The Kite continued ..

Hi there -yes it is more doodling today, and a bit more more added to the kite doodle.  Yesterday we worked on the frame.

and today we have finished the doodle, by adding a scene inside the frame.  I am really quite "Chuffed" with this -who knew I could draw!

Doodling - A Kite (2 days of doodling + to be continued)

Today's doodle was a kite, and the doodling will progress on this over the next few days.  I did this first one along with the live Facebook episode.   I was then killing time waiting to be picked up for an appointment at the surgery for an injection - (yes I went Out Out for the first time in weeks!) so I started adding some colour.

I didn't think I had quite got the shape of the kite right - so I drew it again later - and here are the two, side by side

but wait ......... we did more on the second day; adding a tail and doin some shading and I used my second attempt:

......... that looks a bit more like it!  Amazing what a bit of shading with a pencil does!  (and I did a bit more to the coloured one too).

Tomorrow we are going to create a frame and a landscape for the kite!    I am really enjoying my hour of doodling each day, particularly as I never thought I could draw.  OK so I have a little trouble seeing the end of the pen sometimes -you would have thought doing the tail bows was easy, even when you have done them first in pencil - no not for me - I manage to put some of the lines in the wrong place - I think I am doing it. but then realise where I thought the pen was it wasn't!  but hey ho who cares!  It's the overall impression that counts; and as my Dad would say: "A blind man would be pleased to see it" !

Shortbread

Now for something completely different and a second post for me today.   A friend on Facebook posted the recipe for some shortbread, and it was so like one my Mum used to make that I thought I would make some - as it is years since I made any.  I halved the recipe as I didn't want to make too much - it made 16 slices (yes ok there are only 15 in the picture - but I ate one with a cuppa - well it had to be taste tested didn't it!)

It was quite good - not quite the same as my Mum's - mine was more "toffee" flavoured as I used golden caster sugar -whereas she would have used white.   This recipe used cornflour as well as flour as my mum did, but in this recipe the butter is melted rather than rubbed in - easy peasy (and actually how I make my crumble topping - ever since my daughter melted the butter by mistake when making an apple crumble some years ago ).

Doodling - Smile

It was a simple little doodle for the start of another week of Lockdown.   Mind you so simple - but even I could mess it up - the birds wee supposed to be on the Smile sign - but I obviously wasn't concentrating - either that or some of my birds were trying to escape - never mind it brought a smile to my face when I realised m mistake.   Who's to say it was a mistake - there are no mistakes when doodling.

4rd Birthday Card

A quick little card fro a 3 year old today.  It looks a little blue as I took the photo outside albeit in the shade), but it as picked up the reflection of the blue sky!

Doodling: Flowers

When Barbara finished her demo of the doodled heart, she showed us how to do the flower on the right.  having finished my heart is spent the afternoon drawing the lower, and also decided to try and recreate one I did about 8 years ago, when my eyesight was a lot better!
As the flower I was trying to recreate was originally coloured in - I decided to colour both of them in using Promarkers, and even got out my Artistry inks to do the brushed background colour.

Doodling: Hugs Heart

Another two day doodle.   I wasn't happy with the keyboard I drew in the heart - I had the lines to close together.   I drew another ribbon keyboard on the outside of the heart to prove I could do it properly!

It's ages since I did any zentangle doodling.   If you like this click on the labels on the right-hand side, and search for Zentangle tag.   It amazed me how many I had done a few years ago!

Doodling - Hot Air Balloon

This doodle was done over three days.   On the first day we learned how to draw the basic balloon, and did the top band.  On the second day we did the decoration on the lower band,  and added the basket and learned to do the basket weave.  (Haven't got a photo of that practise).

Finally on DAy 3 we added the two frames, the netting doodle and the landscape detail.   The two outlines of the frames were supposed to have lines drawn in them, but my dodgy eyes couldn't cope with the fine detail work, so I ended up filling them in!

This exercise was quite difficult, in as much as that it had to look like an object (if that makes sense) rather than random doodling as with the flowers and vines etc on yesterday's doodle, but it seems I can sort of draw given a bit of guidance!

I will confess here that I struggled with getting the balloon shape right to start with  (we started with a heart and then converted it).  Well I just couldn't get it right.   I searched the internet for balloon templates and printed one off, but I couldn't see it through the copy paper.  I then had a bright idea - I got out my light box.  Voila! -  I could see the basic shape, and was able to use that and tweak it to fit what I wanted to draw! - success!   Where there is a will there is a way!

Doodling 6 Happy Word

I enjoyed doing this one, which I have just caught up with, as I didn't do it on the day it was demonstrated.

Doodling 5

This was a project over two days - Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.   The house and the frame were done on the first day and the scenery on the second day.

I was quite pleased that I managed to get the shading on the from so that it looks like a "tube".   The house and tiles weren't doo difficult either.  However, I need a lot more practice on the steps,  I must admit I couldn't see exactly what Barbara was doing on those,  Never mind it is more than I could ever thought of attempting a few days ago!

Note: it was actually drawn on white copy paper, but I took the picture outside and it has picked up the reflection of the blue of the sky on this gorgeous day!

Doodling 4

Today's "Lockdown" doodle was taken from two episodes of the SHAC Shack with Clarity Stamp's Barbara Gray over two days.

The first day was the bird table image, and the second day was the flower bower.

Once again pretty pleased with my effort- who knew I could draw a bit table free-hand!

Doodling 3

Today's effort was just drawn in pencil.   I have also cropped the picture so you can see it in close up.
If I get brave enough I may go over it again in pen, and then I can add more shading with a pencil.  My biggest problem is that I can't see the end of the pen with my dodgy eyes - it's ok with pencil as you can rub that out and try again ....... pen is not so forgiving when you make a mistake!

A Doodled Birthday Card

No it isn't the same as yesterdays - I decide to have another go and turn it into a card for a great niece.  I also got out my Pergacolours and coloured it in.

Doodling 2

Following on from yesterday's post, I had another go following Episode 4.   (I actually did this one at the same time as Barbara, rather than yesterdays which I did on catch up).

Maybe, just maybe I can draw after all, although I doubt that I could do it without a guide.

Doodling 1

In this time of lockdown, a lot of people have being online videos, and I have been following Barbara Gray who is doing a daily U-tube tutorial on drawing/dooling.  You will find them if you look for the Clarity SHAC Shack videos  (SHAC = Stay Home and Craft).

Now I have always maintained that I am useless at drawing, (my art teacher at school I think would definitely agree with that statement)so I decided to accept the challenge,

Here is my first effort - just drawn with a micron pen on copy paper.

Hedgehog card

A simple little card created in Craft Artist for a granddaughter who loves hedgehogs, and loves crafting.   She loves Posca pens, but I didn't have any suitable images - in hindsight I could have taken some photos of some of mine - duh!   I used an image of a pencil for the number instead.

I haven't shown the insert, but that had a few images of of art products collaged on to it.   ( I may well use the images for a card for her elder sister later in the year as she is a  very talented  artist - sowatch this space as they say!)

"Cake" card

My niece posted on facebook the other week that last year she had wanted a cake like this, and we hoping that somebody would make her one for her birthday this year.  I did say to make herself one!    (yes cruel aunt that I am!)

Well naturally with us all on lockdown I couldn't make it for her, or get it delivered, as she lives in a different town to me  ... so I created this in craft artist as the next best thing!
